Naval Services FamilyLine Publications

Naval Services FamilyLine volunteers have been creating and publishing guidelines for United States Navy families since 1965. Some publications are available in print and some are available online.  Each publication is free-of-charge for our Navy families.

Guidelines for the Spouses of Chief Petty Officers

This recently revised booklet is the result of a world-wide collaboration with CPO spouses all around the globe. This booklet serves as an excellent source of information for spouses of new Chief Petty Officers as they transition into the Navy CPO family and season. The booklet provides answers to frequently asked questions, and offers helpful guidance regarding the history and origin of the Navy Chief Petty Officer, the 6-week period most commonly known as the season, uniforms, professionalism, and pay schedule.

Our Guidelines for Spouses of Chief Petty Officers publication has been one of our most popular over the years. Unfortunately, with two CPO seasons in ten months, we could not keep pace with the demand and we are currently out of printed copies of this particular publication. To download the most current version, please click the PDF button below. If you require a printed copy, we suggest checking with your local Fleet and Family Service Center or other local commands. If you have any questions or suggestions on how we can make this resource better for you, our CPO spouses, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at
