COMPASS: A 12-hour Naval Services FamilyLine program taught in three four-hour sessions (currently virtually). With mentors guiding discussions, participants are encouraged to ask any questions they may have. Participants are introduced to many aspects of the Navy. The standardized curriculum includes need-to-know topics such as the Navy mission, history, organization, customs and traditions, rights and benefits, deployment, pay, moving, interpersonal communication, and investing in self and community. Another important benefit of COMPASS is the opportunity for spouses to establish a peer network. Experienced spouses pass on their Navy lifestyle insights and the concept of "helping others to help themselves" is clearly observable and becomes an ongoing action-oriented process.
CORE: A volunteer spouse-led Naval Services FamilyLine program which offers seminars, workshops, and presentations dedicated to empowering Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard spouses, educating their families, and promoting the sea service lifestyle. CORE offers resources and education on topics which are applicable and enriching to the sea service spouse community at large. Additionally, local CORE teams develop programming which concentrates on meeting the needs and interests of spouses in their specific fleet concentration areas.
PUBLICATIONS: Naval Services FamilyLine volunteers have been creating and publishing guidelines for United States Navy families since 1965. These publications are available in print or online. Each publication is free-of-charge for our Navy families.
Naval Spouse Leadership Course (NSLC): The Command Spouse Leadership Course (CSLC) and the Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat Spouse Leadership Course (CMCSLC) is an intense one-week, executive-level course for spouses of Commanding Officers, Command Master Chiefs, Chiefs of the Boat, and Command Senior Chiefs en route to their first command tour. The CSLC/CMCSLC provides spouses of prospective COs and CMC/COBs with an in-depth program that enriches their knowledge of the choices and contributions they make as a leadership spouse. Based on personal values and preferences, each spouse develops a personal vision statement and, together with their active duty member, develops a Command Tour Charter.
