National Book Lovers Day - Book of the Month

August 9 is National Book Lovers Day. In the spirit of celebrating this day, we bring to you our 1st Book of the Month. Be on the lookout each month for a new Book of the Month. We look forward to hearing from you about what you think of the books we read together each month. Please read below about our first book!

There is an old idiom that says “Absence makes the heart grow fonder” well if that is the case then our Navy relationships should be super strong… But we all know the reality that the absences created by this military life often makes it much harder to feel and express our love. We are stressed on the home front trying to carry to load of both parents, they are stressed on the front lines working long hours in sometimes very harsh conditions, not to mention the very real stressors of PCS moves, unpredictable schedules, and the reintegration dance which can leave many marriages stressed to almost breaking. So how do we navigate what is likely the most important love relationship in our lives??

Thankfully, Gary Chapman has released a special Military Edition of his classic “The 5 Love Languages”. With inputs from dozens of military couples and with former military wife Jocelyn Green, this edition offers tools for navigating these challenges, to heal broken relationships, and to strengthen healthy ones.

"The 5 Love Languages Military Edition" has an updated question and answer section that addresses the specific challenges in military marriages and highlights ways military couples have adapted the Five Love Languages to this unique lifestyle. One Naval Services FamilyLine spouse highlighted how after discovering her husband’s love language was Acts of Service she no longer saw judgement in his doing household chores but rather a desire to express his love and appreciation for all she did while he was deployed - Game Changer!!

Many Navy Chaplains have copies of this book available and the Navy MWR Overdrive Library has digital copies available to borrow for FREE! https://navy.libraryreserve.com/10/50/en/ContentDetails.htm?id=A71F4A56-052A-4D1C-8756-B4387037FA94
